Welcome to C²i

Centre for Computational Intelligence (C²i), formerly known as the Intelligent Systems Laboratory (iSL), is a new research centre established in April 2004 at the School of Computer Engineering (SCE), where it serves both as a teaching lab and research centre. SCE is part of the College of Engineering (CoE), at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore.

Our expertise ranges from classical, knowledge-intensive AI, through machine learning and adaptive systems, to nature-inspired Computational Intelligence. Our work focuses on the investigation, design, and development of novel models and techniques and their application for building computing systems and devices that are of practical use in human endeavours.

Our mission:

  • To contribute to the development of the University's computing capabilities and resources, and establish an internationally recognised centre of excellence in the field of Computational Intelligence

  • To provide opportunities for staff and students to develop their skills and reputation, foster research collaboration and facilitate international exchanges, and develop the necessary framework to support these activities

  • To focus on complex real-world problems and devise innovative techniques, tools, and solutions, improving along the way our understanding of cognitive architectures, reasoning, problem solving, and general intelligence

  • To promote the application of Computational Intelligence techniques and facilitate their transfer from the research to the user community, seeking new opportunities for industrial projects and commercial ventures

C²i is always looking for collaboration with industrial partners and funding organisations interested in our line of research and its potential applications. We also welcome other faculty interested in joint projects and developments as well as outstanding students interested not only in furthering their education but also in playing an active role in shaping the world of tomorrow.

- Director, C²i
